If you are an artist or share a connection with them, you know that there is always something new to learn and with that in mind, today we end up at the Getty Museum's virtual library, where we can download more than 300 art books for free. Among those texts you will find information about specific artists, cultural influences throughout history, and even technical works related to the conservation of artworks.
The art economy can be particularly tough. Just visit a bookstore and look for works by popular artists, designers, and/or renowned photographers to see that accessing their material isn't so simple. That's why we should celebrate every time an institution decides to share its books online for free. In the middle of last year, the MET enabled about 500 books (now almost 600), and now it's the Getty Museum's turn, through its virtual library.

This library has been online since 2014, and with more than 300 digitized books in its collection, it has accumulated almost half a million downloads. The content prioritizes books that have been declared out of print or whose rights have been ceded in some way. And among those books you can find everything from the painting of exotic animals and the Islamic influence on the Italian Renaissance, to the watercolors of Paul Cézanne, and the collaborations between Rubens and Brueghel.
The Getty Museum's virtual library allows us to read the books online (the system uses Google Books as a platform), download complete copies in PDF format, search for the title in WorldCat, or buy any physical copy that remains available. The resolution of some PDFs is not what you'd call ideal, while in other cases it's more than decent. Even so, it's more than enough to explore, learn, and enjoy.
