Last month we talked about the new offline mode that Netflix enabled for mobile devices. It is a highly requested feature, which especially benefits those trapped in strict data plans, or with an internet connection that is too slow. However, the streaming service decided to leave this support out of reach for desktop users. The answer to the demand arrives through Free Netflix Downloader, a client developed by DVDVideoSoft.
Netflix closed 2016 at a very high level, and even better things are expected this year. Now, that also means it will have to respond to greater demands from its users. Streaming provides specific advantages, since the most important thing is accessing the content itself, but streaming quality depends on how good our connection is. Netflix can make multiple adjustments on its side to reduce the volume of data and maintain the same definition in its videos, however, all that tweaking has a limit, and the rest of the heavy lifting falls on the provider. Of course, providers tend to betray the user more than provide a decent service, which inevitably led to the offline mode on mobile devices. The big question is: What about Netflix users on the desktop?
For now, the company doesn't seem to have plans to bring that functionality to computers, but the people at DVDVideoSoft want to fill the gap with their new Free Netflix Downloader. In essence, what we need to do is log into Netflix, copy the URL of what we want to download into the program, and wait for it to finish. Other options are to convert to AVI, MP3 (for those who want only the audio), and compatible (not to say "optimized") with iOS devices. Free Netflix Downloader offers the possibility of performing multiple downloads at the same time, so getting the complete season of a series should be a matter of minutes on a solid connection.
Free Netflix Downloader has two important limitations. The first is that it cannot download HD videos. In fact, the standard resolution we get with the program is a step below what you see on the browser. Smaller screens tolerate this change better, but if someone wants 1080p video, they will be disappointed. The second is that Free Netflix Downloader disappeared from its developer's page. That makes us think Netflix already raised the alarm, although the direct download link is still active (available below). In summary, Free Netflix Downloader delivers something Netflix users want. The company needs to find a way to offer it on its own, or we'll see more downloaders in the future.
