Free sounds to download

Recently we talked about resources available on the web such as free icons for direct download and vector illustrations, but what about audio? If you're working on a game or a multimedia application, you've probably thought about adding effects or a soundtrack in the background. That brings us to Sonniss, which has been offering its GameAudioGDC archive since 2015. It consists of six packages with free sounds to download, an average of 160 GB, no attribution required, and compatible with commercial projects.

Just as some movies are unforgettable for their soundtrack, there are games that went down in history boosted by their music and effects. The first example that comes to mind is Doom, with its fans creating entire documentaries dedicated to sound. Those documentaries taught us one thing: Not even a high-caliber project like Doom hesitated to use stock sounds. And if its developers could... you can too.

The question is: Where do those sounds come from? In reality, the key is royalty-free. Everything you're going to use must be free of costs and legal requirements, and that brings us to the official site of Sonniss, which since 2015 offers its 'GameAudioGDC' megapack. Accompanying each Game Developers Conference, Sonniss releases the equivalent of thousands of dollars in free sounds to download, without contracts or commitments.
