In a frozen world, humanity has developed steam-powered technology to fight the overwhelming cold. The citadel's ruler must manage both the citizens and the infrastructure they live in. The leader's tactical skills are put to the test, often questioning the morality and basic foundations of what we consider an organized society. In Frostpunk, optimization and resource management frequently clash with empathy and thoughtful decision-making. While running the citadel and society consumes most of the ruler's time, exploring the outside world is eventually necessary to understand its history and current state.

The subgenre created by 11 bit studios, the team behind the acclaimed This War of Mine, fulfills the need to highlight the unusual mix of building a city, surviving, and being a society simulator. Here you are the leader of the citadel, humanity's last bastion. You must oversee society, manage resources, and make difficult, ambiguous choices, such as allowing child labor or adding additives to food to make it more abundant but less healthy. Whatever you do, always remember: The citadel must survive.

Additionally, you'll have icons appearing all over the citadel to alert you to things you need to manage, and there will be a larger world as you venture out, with icons that presumably show where you can gather resources. Frostpunk is being developed by 11 bit studios and will be available on Windows. For now, the game has no concrete release date, but it's expected to arrive before the end of the year.
