How to play 2048x2048

To play 2048x2048 online, wait for preparation to finish, then press the Play button to start the MS-DOS edition (2016) in your browser. Use the arrow keys to slide every tile in one of four directions.

The goal is to join matching tiles on a 4×4 grid, reaching 2048 and then higher values if you can. Each move shifts all tiles and spawns a new one in an empty square. Tiles with different values block one another; identical tiles fuse into a tile worth twice as much. Think ahead when choosing a direction: the game ends when the grid fills completely.

A puzzle packed into tiny code

The 2016 edition takes the 2048 concept to a technical extreme: its executable is just 256 bytes. This sizecoding exercise is written in assembly language, and the source code is included with the game. The compact program leaves the familiar strategic challenge intact: keep space open while building larger numbers.
