How to play

To play Castle of Viana - Capiroto's Revenge online, wait for preparation to finish, then press Play to start the 2017 MS-DOS edition in your browser. Move with the arrow keys, jump with Z, fire arrows horizontally with X, and swing your sword with C. Up fires upward or climbs stairs; Esc quits.

Explore the fixed-screen rooms of the floating Castle of Viana do Castelo and defeat the demon Capiroto. This non-linear platform-and-puzzle adventure asks you to find keys for locked doors, navigate hazards, and discover the route to the final encounter. Use your sword and unlimited arrows against monsters. Enemies return when you re-enter a room, while contact and hazards drain health; healing items restore it.

Made for a game jam

Daniel “MontyOnTheRun” Monteiro developed the game, with art by Pedro Fernandes, for the June 2017 CGA Jam. Its theme was “history repeats itself,” and the game was made from scratch in a roughly two-week sprint. The DOS edition was released in 2017; version 2 and 2.1 archives followed.
