How to play Floppy Bird

To play Floppy Bird online, wait for the game to prepare, then press Play to start the 2014 MS-DOS edition in your browser. Press Space to flap and gain height; when you release it, gravity pulls the bird downward.

Your aim is to keep the bird airborne and travel as far as possible through an automatically scrolling course. Use repeated taps to adjust its altitude and steer through the gaps between pipes. Hitting a pipe or the edge of the screen ends the run, so time each flap to clear the next opening without losing control.

A game made to boot from a floppy

Mihail Szabolcs created Floppy Bird in 2014 as a PC boot program, written in 16-bit x86 assembly and designed to run from a floppy disk. A DOS-compatible .COM version came later; that is the edition launched here. Its one-button design makes altitude control the whole challenge: each tap must lift the bird just enough to navigate the scrolling gaps.
