"He has his father's eyes", "she has her mother's smile"… are classic phrases we have heard endlessly around babies and young children, but the truth is, the similarities are much deeper than we imagine. The photographer Ulric Collette decided to explore them through his project «Portraits génétique», revealing the resemblance between parents, children and siblings with an impressive level of detail, and a little chilling at the same time…
The project has been active for approximately ten years, and already has an international profile, with exhibitions in Belgium and the United States. Collette's next step (according to what we can observe on his official page) is to expand his work by incorporating people of Asian origin, Native Americans, African Americans and mestizos, aged 15 to 75. To optimize his results, the portraits are always limited to first-generation descendants, that is, parents with children, and siblings. In some cases, joining the faces requires a bit more editing effort, but there are others in which they essentially look like the same person.
