Gigabyte's BRIX series has become a very interesting alternative for users willing to trade a little flexibility for a much more compact design, while still being able to reuse some components like RAM and SSD. Computex 2017 is drawing to a close, but the Taiwanese manufacturer has a new line to share: BRIX Gaming, with seventh-generation Intel processors and integrated GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or GTX 1060 graphics.
Last Thursday, we talked about a new Mini-ITX motherboard that ASRock presented at Computex 2017, compatible with AMD's latest Ryzen processors. High-end enthusiasts have many reasons not to give up space in their PCs, but beyond specific advantages, the truth is that current hardware eliminates the need for it. In other words, we can now install very powerful components in cases that would have caught fire a few years ago. A good example is Intel's NUC format, ideal for small terminals that can be easily mounted on the back of a monitor. However, Santa Clara's poor relationship with video requires exploring other paths when the goal is gaming. That is where Gigabyte comes in, offering an update of its BRIX Gaming line.
Hardware specifications
A natural extension of the original BRIX computers, the BRIX Gaming are prepared to face the demands of virtual reality by combining seventh-generation Intel processors with the latest video solutions Nvidia has launched. The four available models use Core i5-7300 (2.5 / 3.5 GHz) and Core i7-7700HQ (2.8 / 3.8 GHz) chips, while graphics are based on GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (4 GB GDDR5) or, alternatively, GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB GDDR5). All configurations include two SODIMM DDR4 slots (max 64 GB), three PCIe M.2 sockets (two 2280 and one 2230 occupied by the network), two 2.5-inch bays, WiFi ac and Bluetooth, a USB type C port, gigabit Ethernet, and a solid array of HDMI and mini DisplayPort ports. The overall size is 22 x 11 x 11 centimeters, just over 2,600 cubic centimeters.
Availability and pricing
Unfortunately, Gigabyte decided to keep the rest of the information, so there are no prices or release dates for the new BRIX Gaming. As always, it is important to remember that these are kits, so users must add their own storage, memory, monitor, and keyboard-mouse combo.
