In daily computer use, writing takes up a large part of the day, and as users we are accustomed to working with standard formats such as writing an email, an article, or comments. But when we need to incorporate or extract textual content from an unconventional format like PDF files or an image, this task becomes complicated, and that's where gImageReader comes in.
With gImageReader, you can extract text from an image (it supports many formats) and from a PDF file. You can extract part of the text or the entire text, make corrections, or search for content.
Once you download the application from its official page, you'll notice its simple interface where the work area predominates (graphical front-end style).
How to use gImageReader
Its use is very simple: first you have to drag the file into the work area in image format, it supports up to '.ico', and in our tests we had no problem with conventional image formats and heavy PDF files. To enable the text area, click on the icon “Show/Hide output panel” and then click on the icon “Recognize all…” so that the tool recognizes all the text from the uploaded file.
At this point we want to make a clarification, because the tool only recognizes the English language, but in our tests uploading files in Spanish it recognized the text perfectly.
Then, in the “Auto-detect layout” icon, the tool only detects text blocks, excluding photos and graphics. Now you'll have all the text on the right side of the application and you'll have some tools like search and group text (in our tests the spell checker didn't work).
gImageReader is a very good tool for extracting text from an image or a PDF. The utility works quickly and recognizes multiple image formats. gImageReader is a free application available for Windows and Linux operating systems.
