GitHub announced that Copilot can answer questions spanning multiple repositories in a single Slack or Microsoft Teams conversation in a changelog entry dated October 15, 2026. The examples include finding open pull requests across repositories, checking which pull requests merged during a week, investigating an issue that crosses frontend and backend repositories, and summarizing recent activity. What the update changes in Slack and Teams
GitHub also says people can mention @GitHub anywhere in a message and switch repositories more smoothly. For Slack specifically, shared messages and threads can provide context for a Copilot conversation.
GitHub describes reliability work for both Slack and Microsoft Teams as intended to reduce errors, help tasks start, and improve recovery after interruptions.
Questions about repositories versus code changes
The new conversations are for asking about work across repositories. GitHub’s separate documentation says Copilot cloud agent makes code changes in the repository specified when a task starts, works on one branch at a time, and can open one pull request per task. Those limits apply to cloud-agent code changes; the Slack and Teams announcement describes cross-repository conversations. (GitHub Docs on Copilot on GitHub.com)
