On October 6, 2026, Google and Constellation Energy announced two power arrangements for the PJM Interconnection grid totaling 3,590 megawatts (MW), or about 3.6 gigawatts (GW). One is tied to 890 MW of planned additional nuclear capacity; the other covers 2,700 MW from Constellation’s existing fleet. The headline total combines both, but the two components are different kinds of supply.
Two arrangements, with different terms
| Arrangement component | Capacity | Term | What it represents |
| Planned nuclear uprates | 890 MW | 20 years | Planned additional capacity from upgrades to existing units |
| Existing-fleet supply | 2,700 MW | 15 years | An arrangement involving Constellation’s existing PJM fleet |
Together, the figures add up to 3,590 MW. A megawatt measures power capacity; it is not a measure of electricity consumed over time. The combined total brings planned added capacity and supply from operating plants under separate agreements with different terms.
890 MW of planned additional nuclear capacity
The 20-year agreement is associated with uprates at existing Constellation nuclear units. An uprate is an increase in a generating unit’s capacity. The announced plan covers 11 units at six sites in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey—not construction of 11 new reactors.
Constellation says the planned work includes upgrades to turbines, steam generators, and digital control systems. The 890 MW is additional capacity the company plans to make available across PJM as those upgrades proceed; it is not capacity already delivered.
The separate 2,700 MW agreement
The 15-year arrangement covers 2,700 MW from Constellation’s existing PJM fleet. That portion concerns electricity and capacity from operating assets, rather than planned new generating capacity. It is part of the roughly 3.6-GW combined headline, but not part of the 890-MW uprate plan.
Google’s arrangements are for power. The units slated for upgrades are owned and operated by Constellation Energy.
Planned investment and first expected uprate
Constellation plans to invest more than $4.3 billion in the initiative and estimates it will support approximately 7,200 construction jobs during the building period. Those figures describe the company’s planned project investment and job estimate. Constellation expects the first uprate by 2028.
A separate five-year technology alliance
The announcement also includes a five-year technology alliance involving Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise. Constellation plans to use the technologies in energy operations. This collaboration is separate from the two electricity arrangements.
