Wearable devices have been pushed down the priority list of several companies. While it might be a bit hasty to say the concept is exhausted, it definitely needs to reinvent itself through new hardware, and of course, new software. That said, a couple of leaks suggest that Android Wear 2.0 will debut on February 9, and that Google will join forces with LG to launch two smartwatches to the market, the LG Watch Sport and the LG Watch Style.
This is the rumor control, here are the facts: The first generations of wearable devices failed to capture public interest. High prices, unclear features, "tech fatigue"... many reasons have been considered. The cold reception forced leading market companies to reconsider their strategies, regroup, and essentially discover the best way to try again. The wearable device still needs to develop its own identity. For now it is nothing more than a complement that points to smartphones, phablets, and tablets. What exactly can it improve? A possible answer to that question will come through Google and LG.
Android Wear 2.0 launch
First, we have the imminent launch of Android Wear 2.0. Google confirmed last September that the new version would be delayed (after several criticisms received at the last I/O conference), but all guns point to February 9. New interface, an integrated store, NFC support, Android Pay, and Google Assistant set the pace for Android Wear 2.0. I have no data regarding update paths for existing watches, however, what does seem confirmed is the existence of additional products: LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style.
Hardware specifications
Both watches will have an equivalent to the Apple Watch's digital crown, but then we detect differences in hardware. The Sport serves as the higher-end model, with 768 megabytes of RAM, a 420 mAh battery, and a 1.38-inch screen with 480 by 480 pixel resolution. In the case of the Style, the screen is 1.2 inches at 360 by 360 pixels, its battery is 240 mAh, and memory reaches 512 megabytes. The watches will offer broad connectivity options, and a heart rate monitor. The date for their appearance would be the same as that of Android Wear 2.0.
