Google’s November 2026 System Services notes list automatic photo and video backup from Android to Windows. The entry appears under [PC, Phone] for Google Play services v26.43 and is dated November 2, 2026 (Google System Services release notes).
The reported Quick Share setup
In a November 4 report, ExtremeTech said the transfer uses Quick Share and requires Quick Share on Windows, the same Google Account on both devices, and a shared Wi-Fi network. The report described a gradual rollout through Google Play system updates.
Ways to move Android photos to Windows
ZDNET describes five other transfer routes. Which one suits you depends on whether you want a direct copy, an app-based import, or cloud syncing:
- USB and File Explorer: Copy files from the phone’s DCIM/Camera folder.
- Windows Photos: Import pictures from a connected Android device and choose a destination folder.
- Google Photos: Back up photos to the service, then download selected images or groups through its website.
- OneDrive: Turn on Camera backup in the Android app to sync photos to the OneDrive folder on a PC.
- Phone Link: View and save photos from the phone, one at a time rather than in a batch.
A cloud-free sync option
In a June 29, 2022 tutorial, Rob Braxman Tech demonstrates pairing Syncthing on Android and Windows and sharing folders for automatic photo backups. The presenter describes the setup as requiring no cloud access, while also being able to work over the internet.
