Google DeepMind and Google Cloud announced on October 14, 2026, plans to give up to 200 of Europe’s leading scientific researchers access to five AI tools and a shared pool of $3 million in computing credits. Google says the planned access will be offered through the European Union’s Resource for AI Science in Europe (RAISE) initiative. Google’s announcement sets out the commitment.
Five tools for scientific research
The tools named in the announcement are AlphaFold 3, WeatherNext, AlphaGenome, AlphaEvolve, and AlphaEarth Foundations. Google cites research into extreme-weather prediction and molecular structures as examples of potential applications, without linking a particular tool to either area.
The $3 million is a shared pool of compute credits—support for computing resources, rather than cash grants to individual researchers. The announced cohort is capped at 200.
How RAISE fits in
Google identifies RAISE as the route for making the tools available. The European Commission describes RAISE as a virtual research institute intended to pool computing power, data, talent, and research funding for European research on and with AI. The Commission’s description of RAISE covers that broader framework; Google’s $3 million compute-credit pool is a separate commitment.
