Google is reported to be planning a change to model access in Gemini Apps for personal accounts on Oct. 9, 2026: accounts without a Google AI plan would keep Flash-Lite, while Flash and Pro would no longer be available to them. The reported plan changes which models each tier can select; it does not end Gemini’s free tier, which Google lists at $0 per month.
Models available under the reported plan
The reported arrangement would affect tiers differently:
| Google AI plan | Flash-Lite | Flash | Pro |
| No paid plan | Yes | No | No |
| Google AI Plus | Yes | Yes | No |
| Google AI Pro | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Google AI Ultra | Yes | Yes | Yes |
What changes for AI Plus and AI Pro
Google AI Plus subscribers would retain access to Flash-Lite and Flash but lose Pro. Their account-specific timing is reported to be communicated by email.
Google AI Pro would retain Flash-Lite, Flash and Pro, and is reported to gain Deep Think. Google AI Ultra is reported to retain access to all three model families, with Deep Think remaining available.
Model access is separate from usage limits
The reported plan also describes low, medium and high effort settings as an October addition for available models. Higher effort would use more of a user’s limit.
Separately, Google says Gemini usage limits depend on prompt complexity, the features used and chat length. Those limits refresh every five hours, subject to a weekly limit.
