If you'd rather be more efficient and save some memory, the Chrome extension Google Results Previewer gives you a preview of each result right in the search page, so you can avoid opening tabs unnecessarily.

The experience of searching on Google hasn't changed much over the years. Aside from improvements in accuracy and speed, the core of the engine remains the same. Most people think that's fine and there's no need to reinvent the wheel. But there's still room for useful features, either built into the search engine itself or handled by the browser. What if you could see a preview of the sites you want to visit before clicking? Saving time and keeping fewer tabs open sounds great for efficiency. Best of all, it's completely optional and only requires an extension.

It all starts with downloading Google Results Previewer. Once installed, you just hover over any link in Google's search results. The preview appears on the right side of the screen, and when you move your cursor over it, it gets larger. Not every item in the preview loads perfectly, and sometimes it shows the mobile version of the site, but that's usually enough to decide if it's what you need. The extension has no advanced settings and activates automatically.

Google Results Previewer is currently at version 0.0.5, so it's reasonable to expect an update or two in the coming weeks. Its developer, Jesse Rowe, hasn't shared any details about bringing the extension to Firefox. The official page doesn't indicate that he's worked on Mozilla's browser before, but that could change with Google Results Previewer if it gains traction.
