Googlebook reportedly went on sale over the weekend before Oct. 5, and preorders were reported sold out. Launch-era feature details explain what Glowbar signals and how Game Controls maps keyboard keys to Android game inputs.

Google’s Sept. 21 announcement set Oct. 4 as the scheduled U.S. shelf date and named a category starting price of $899. NeoTeo covered the preorder timing in its earlier Googlebook story.

What Glowbar’s lights indicate

Glowbar is reported to use a dim white light while the laptop is in use and a brighter white light while charging. Its battery signal is red when charge is low, amber at 20–59%, and green at 60% or higher.

During Gemini conversations, the light reportedly cycles between blue and purple. Users can turn Glowbar off entirely or disable it only during Gemini conversations.

How Game Controls maps keys to Android games

Game Controls maps physical keyboard keys to on-screen inputs in Android games, including taps and swipes; joystick controls can also be assigned to keys. The reported setup path is a game’s title bar, then Settings > Game Controls.

Google describes Googlebook as a laptop category that combines Android technology with desktop foundations from ChromeOS. Its advertised features include Gemini tools such as Magic Pointer and Create My Widget, as well as phone-link functions including Cast My Apps, Quick Access and Continue On.

Setting up the highlighted phone-link features requires an Android phone running Android 17 or later. Google positions Googlebook as a premium laptop category, distinct from its Chromebook line.
