Gpredict is a program that searches and predicts satellite orbits, so you can know when a particular satellite approaches your area or a specific location on the planet.
The tool provides you with information about the orbit, satellite status, catalog number, inclination, and so on.
Getting Started with Gpredict
Once you download the program from its official page, you'll see its simple interface, with a world map predominating at the top.
Now let's create a satellite tracking: click on File and then select New module. At this point, you can create a new module. In the pop-up window, you'll name your module and specify the Ground Station (the location you want; you can also use DEFAULT).
Then you select one or more satellites, and the map will display your location and the satellite's orbit (its real-time position). This way, you can know the exact moment the satellite passes over your location.
Customizing the Tool
From Edit and Preferences, you can customize the platform: set your format and local time, update the satellite database and the environment, and change the map and icon design.
The tool is really easy to use and very visual: you can track any satellite from any location. This way, you can follow the satellite for visualization or use it, and also get real-time information about it.
From Neoteo, we recommend you update the satellite database before creating modules, because in our tests, before updating, we couldn't find the satellites we were looking for.
Gpredict is a free program available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. It's in beta and is portable.
