Today we can train an artificial intelligence on almost any task as long as the dataset is large enough. With that in mind, someone decided to take the last three and a half years of comments in the /pol/ section of 4chan to create a text generator. GPT-4chan mentions secondary goals such as the study of anonymous discussion forums and “toxicity detection”, but if you want to experience that chaos for yourself, inject a little text and wait…
User interaction on the Web can be described these days as a whirlwind of permanent chaos, and one of the premier entry points is 4chan. Its adventure began in 2003 as a Western equivalent of the imageboard Japanese 2chan, and with more than 20 million monthly users (half of them in the United States alone), it is now one of the global cores for everything politically incorrect, with special emphasis on the section called /pol/.
What's the news? That someone took the last three and a half years of posts on /pol/ to train an artificial intelligence. Would you like to know more…?
GPT-4chan: A text generator based on /pol/ from 4chan
The first thing we find in the GPT-4chan Playground is a trigger warning: This thing is vile. Proceed at your own risk.. It also warns that all results are based on statistical inference, so they should not be taken seriously. Still, some of the responses generated by the platform definitely feel like a direct extraction from 4chan.
The video explains its operation in great detail and the performance it had on the site (extraordinary, judging by all the conspiracies that were created with its activity), but the online text generator is not far behind. For example…
A fairly common comment these days is that everything new from Disney is “woke garbage”, so I decided to plant that seed in the generator. In less than four messages it mentioned how horrible the new Star Wars movies are, and that Disney is being controlled by Jews. The most likely thing is that GPT-4chan won't last long online (bandwidth costs money, and users are bombarding the generator with requests), so I recommend you take a look… if you have the stomach for it.
