Grammofy

A history of starts and stops

Launched in May 2016 in the United Kingdom and Germany, Grammofy was an alternative streaming music service dedicated exclusively to classical music. The service cost €2.99 per month but shut down in November 2017. At that time, the company said that despite continuous growth and vigorous efforts, it had not been able to build the necessary financial strength in the medium term to fund the hours spent continuing to deliver a high-quality product. Four months later, Grammofy has returned, but this time as a free service where you can discover classical music with your Spotify account.

Discover classical music with Spotify

In this service you will find a growing catalog of more than 50,000 classical music tracks, with high-quality curated collections, and material from both new artists and the great classics of the past since 1607. Although this service is free, it's not quite as simple as it seems: Grammofy is now integrated with Spotify Premium to listen to classical music through the service's specialized interface, dedicated to discovering and providing information related to this musical genre. On the other hand, Grammofy is available for use on the web, but there are already plans to reactivate the mobile app for iOS in the future. The company is also expected to connect Grammofy with other streaming services in addition to Spotify soon.

So if you have a Spotify Premium account and appreciate classical music, be sure to visit this site dedicated to the genre. Note that if you use Spotify's free tier, you won't have access to Grammofy.
