The Search for the Unknown

A few weeks ago, the Gunrunning update added some new weapons, vehicles, and underground bunkers to Grand Theft Auto Online. Buried deep in the new update were a series of files and codes that seemed to hint at an alien ship crashing just outside the Zancudo military base. Players were excited at the prospect of uncovering a long-standing mystery involving a strange alien egg linked to the suspicious event.

Members of Team Guru, a community of GTA V modders, spent weeks investigating and searching for a way to activate these alien bits of coding. After many sleepless nights, they used a tool created by member Polivilas from Team Guru to change the game's variables until they could force an extraterrestrial supply mission to activate.

Inside the Alien Mission

As you can see in the video, the mission is a bit overwhelming: the objective is to head to a location and steal some supplies (where the alien egg appears). Upon arrival, you can see a large crashed UFO in the swamp, along with some dead scientists and soldiers around the ship. Once you grab the alien egg, a small group of aliens appears and the player has to eliminate them.

Until GTA Online updates and this mission are properly activated, it's unknown whether this is the final version of the event or if it will ever be officially added to the game. But this is conclusive proof that Rockstar was recently doing something with the idea of aliens appearing in GTA Online. The mission itself isn't incredibly exciting or different; in fact, many players are disappointed as they expected a reward that would justify years of searching. On the other hand, some players hope this new mission is just the beginning of something bigger, perhaps eventually involving the long-awaited jetpack (the propulsive backpack that appears in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas). We'll have to wait to see how this matter unfolds.
