We previously discussed Scrcpy, a fantastic open-source tool that lets you control Android devices from the desktop. One of its weaknesses is the lack of a graphical interface; however, thanks to the efforts of the GUIScrcpy project, that limitation disappears completely. The best part is that it works seamlessly with the latest build of Scrcpy, enabling screen recording and audio support on Android 11 or later.
Many smartphone manufacturers have developed various remote transformation and control resources for their products. Samsung DeX is one of the first that comes to mind, turning compatible phones and tablets into workstations. But sometimes we need something as simple as a mirror, a direct path of control toward our device, using keyboard and mouse.
Fortunately, there is a highly compatible generic solution in the form of Scrcpy, which just reached version 2.0. The most important advances of this build are H265 and AV1 support, and audio forwarding on Android 11 or later. The basic setup process remains the same as we mentioned in the original article, but today we're going to add something more: a graphical interface called GUIScrcpy.
Control Your Android Device from Your PC with GUIScrcpy
The exact process to configure GUIScrcpy begins with downloading it from the GitHub profile. There we select the Qt5 version for Windows (32 or 64 bits depending on the operating system), and save the executable inside the temporary folder of Scrcpy. When running GUIScrcpy, the program will show an error of "scrcpy-server not found", but all we have to do is select it from the Scrcpy folder.
As always, the main recommendation is to use a USB cable to connect the Android device to the computer, thus reducing any performance loss. Then we specify the maximum bitrate in the GUIScrcpy interface, and finally press the Start Scrcpy button. If everything goes well, the device's screen will appear in a new window.
What can we modify with GUIScrcpy? First, the interface activates additional buttons to access all aspects of Android, however, it also adds full screen mode, screen recording / screen off, and rotation control. All of this would be very complicated to configure with the command line, but GUIScrcpy reduces it to a couple of clicks. Don't miss trying it!
