For U.S. buyers, HomePod mini 2 costs $149 and HomePod (2nd generation) costs $349 at Apple, a $200 difference. The full-size model has a different speaker array, plus Apple-listed Spatial Audio and room sensing. Apple’s U.S. Store lists the prices and features for both models.

The HomePod mini 2 also uses the Apple S10 chip. Apple says its computational audio analyzes music in real time to optimize dynamic range, loudness and acoustic performance. Apple’s announcement describes that processing as part of the mini 2’s audio system.
If you want the Spatial Audio and room-sensing capabilities Apple lists for HomePod, the $349 model is the one to consider. The $149 mini 2 has its own listed speaker hardware and costs $200 less. The specifications distinguish the two designs without assigning either a listening-test result.
What to know about pairing and home theater
Apple lists both speakers as multiroom options, smart-home hubs and speakers for Apple TV 4K surround. Sound Recognition can identify smoke or carbon monoxide alarm sounds and notify your Apple devices, according to Apple.
Stereo pairing has a model-generation restriction: Apple’s rule, reported by The Mac Observer, requires two speakers of the same model and generation. A HomePod mini 2 and a HomePod (2nd generation) cannot make a stereo pair together.
For home theater surround, Apple specifies four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod (2nd generation) speakers in matching front and rear pairs, plus an Apple TV 4K (4th generation). Apple’s announcement gives those setup requirements.
Availability and Siri AI
Apple announced HomePod mini 2 on October 13, 2026, and scheduled availability to begin October 30, 2026. Apple says Siri AI will arrive on the speaker in a future software update and lists the United States among the markets for English-language availability.
