Last month marked 34 years since the nuclear accident that destroyed the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and changed the region forever. More than 49,000 people were evacuated from Pripyat the next day, forced to leave behind their lives, their belongings, and even their pets. Today, Pripyat is a ghost city, ruined and reclaimed by nature. Yet with the help of enthusiasts Dmitriy Didenko and Andrey Goopsa, we can now visualize an intact, modern, vibrant, and radiation-free Pripyat.
In a parallel world, the Chernobyl disaster never happened. The mistakes made during its tests were never made. The plant received the necessary design improvements and continued operating. Pripyat was never evacuated. Shops, parks, clubs, and schools stayed open. Someone with a better imagination than mine could turn that into a good story, but two enthusiastic historians, Dmitriy Didenko and Andrey Goopsa, decided to use Photoshop to turn that alternative Pripyat into reality...
