Using Google Chrome in incognito mode is more common than ever. However, to use this mode, we first need to open Chrome in normal mode. If we visit certain websites that require private browsing, the fact that Chrome opens by default in normal mode can make us forget to open an incognito window and later have to take other measures to clear your history on your computer. For this reason, we will teach you a method to always open Chrome in incognito mode. To do this, we will use a built-in function in the Windows 10 Registry and the Google Chrome 68 browser.
How to always open Google Chrome in incognito mode?
The first thing you need to do is type regedit in the Windows search box and open the Registry Editor.
At this point, you need to find the folder Google following this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE – SOFTWARE – Policies – Google.
Under the Google key, you will find the Chrome key. Select the folder and in the right panel, right-click on the white area. In the context menu, select: New – DWORD. A new file will be created that you will name as follows: IncognitoModeAvailability.
Then click on the file and a pop-up window will open. In the value data option, you will need to change the value to 2.
Now you will need to restart Google Chrome and open it again. When it opens, you will see that it launches in incognito mode. But the New window for normal mode option and the Ctrl + N shortcut will also disappear. To return to normal mode, you will need to change the value 2 to 0.
If the Google and Chrome keys are not in the path (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE – SOFTWARE – Policies – Google), you can create them by right-clicking on the Policies folder and renaming the folders with the names Google and Chrome.
If you regularly browse privately to avoid leaving traces of your activities on your computer, this method will be very helpful. However, remember that browsing in incognito mode only ensures that you don't leave traces in your browser, but it doesn't work like a VPN. In other words, you won't be invisible to common web trackers.
