While we understand that there are no magic solutions and that extreme cases require additional hardware, increasing your PC's sound beyond the limit doesn't have to become a nightmare. With the right software, we can always extract a bit of extra volume, and that brings us to two programs: on one hand, the graphic/parametric equalizer Equalizer APO and on the other, a special interface called Peace Equalizer, with a large number of presets and advanced controls.
It's a more common problem than we imagine: the volume control in Windows is stuck at 100, but the sound is still low. Small speakers, problematic drivers, a limited audio chip, or a combination of these factors can affect our experience.
Many users don't hesitate to adopt a brute force strategy, and end up installing a new sound card, a DAC, or an external amplifier. However, before turning your wallet into an Olympic torch, you should know that there are software alternatives with much better performance than expected. If you want to increase your PC's sound beyond the limit, you should try a copy of Equalizer APO, and its dedicated interface Peace Equalizer.
Increase Your PC's Sound with Equalizer APO and Peace Equalizer
Once the installation of Equalizer APO is finished, you need to restart the computer for its modules to activate correctly. If all you want is to increase the sound quickly, opening the Configuration Editor and adding the gain module will be more than enough. But the standard interface of Equalizer APO can be a bit intimidating, especially when it comes to configuring and activating presets.
For that reason, Equalizer APO reaches its maximum potential after installing Peace Equalizer, an alternative frontend that is much more intuitive and complete, and also includes a Spanish translation. The preamplification control appears at the top, while presets are located in the bottom left corner (you will have to download them manually, or why not, create one from scratch), and they are activated a couple of seconds after selecting them.
Peace Equalizer can limit its scope to specific speakers or devices, but the most powerful aspect, so to speak, is the customization of the equalizer. With a couple of clicks it is possible to define the frequencies and gains of each slider, or better yet, clone the configuration of another program.
Personally, I always liked the Winamp equalizer, and Peace Equalizer allows me to easily reproduce it. To finish, both tools are open source, and they work on any version of Windows from Vista onward. Links below!
