Digital Rebellion is a website that calculates the aspect ratio of the screen of your devices or of any video played on them. This way, you can determine the relationship between the height and width of the video or screen dimensions.
To briefly explain aspect ratio, here is a common example: when you record a video with your mobile device in portrait orientation, you capture with an aspect ratio that is taller than wide. When you record in landscape orientation, you capture with a landscape aspect ratio, closer to HD (16:9). On the Digital Rebellion web platform, you can calculate the aspect ratio by entering the resolution manually or by leaving the default values.
How to Use Digital Rebellion
In "Calculate", you should select the option "Aspect Ratio". In "Preset" goes the maximum screen format. If it's a video, enter the recording format of the file (from DV up to Red 2540p). You only need to know the resolution of the screen or video and enter it in "Resolution" (width and height). Once you enter the "Preset", the "Resolution" fields fill in automatically.
After entering these parameters, the tool will show you the resolution in pixels and the aspect ratio at the bottom. These data are very important, for example, to project a video on an appropriate screen or projector. Because if you record a video in a 16:9 aspect ratio and then project it on a screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, part of the frame will not be visible to the viewer.
This platform opens a great debate: whether or not to buy UHD TVs (2K and 4K). When you acquire a TV with these features, you get a very large resolution. But the channels (over-the-air or cable) you are watching on that TV, for the most part, transmit in DV, to a lesser extent in Full HD, and to a very small extent in 2K or 4K. So: Do broadcasting companies create content in UHD? Or do TVs have more resolution technology than the transmissions received?
