Whether for organization or to get out of a bind, sometimes we need to change the date of multiple files in its three main parameters: creation, access, and modification. At the same time, we might also need to mark those files as read-only, or even hide them. Luckily, the inexhaustible Nirsoft has the ideal tool in BulkFileChanger, which reduces the process to a few clicks.
More than once we have encountered files that seem to have traveled in time, with dates that precede the creation of their own format, or the program that generated them. It is a minor detail, although in certain cases it can confuse users, or cause a problem later.
Windows allows us to remove some properties from files and strip personal information from their metadata, but the date remains unchanged... unless we use an external tool. That is when BulkFileChanger from Nirsoft comes in, which helps us change the date of multiple files at once, and if necessary, modify attributes.
How to Change the Date of Multiple Files with BulkFileChanger
In what we already consider classic Nirsoft design, BulkFileChanger has a minimalist interface. All we have to do is open the folder with the files we want to modify (there are two options for this, Add files or Add by Wildcard), make a selection, and then click the clock icon, or alternatively press F6.
The new menu is divided into two parts. The top section focuses on everything related to date and time. We can change the creation, modification, and access dates, specify the exact time, or add an arbitrary number of hours in each field. The fourth option enables advanced parameters depending on the file format. At our disposal we have EXIF values (creation, storage, and modification dates for JPGs), general date, acquisition and encoding for media files, creation and save dates in documents, and capture date for photos.
The lower section is entirely dedicated to the four basic attributes in any file (Archive, Hidden, Read-only, and System), and a fifth parameter that sets a temporary attribute. There is nothing special here, but the fact of processing hundreds of files with a single command is definitely an advantage.
