Keeping your PC's fans under control is just as important as regular cleaning. It helps you spot temperature issues early and identify fans that may be failing or generating excessive noise. One of the most interesting tools for fan control is FanControl. Free and open source, it lets you create custom configurations for any situation and, of course, control each fan individually.
Excessive heat is one of the biggest enemies of any computer, and you need your entire cooling system in top shape to avoid problems. In other words, you should pay special attention to fan behavior, catch any issues early, and, where possible, adjust fan speeds to optimize airflow. Many fan management programs border on bloatware, so if you prefer a lighter tool to control your PC fans, you should try FanControl.
FanControl: Control Your PC Fans with Ease
The first time FanControl loads, detection can take a couple of minutes. The app tries to recognize everything available on your system, seeks out upper and lower speed limits, and presents the results in a clean, intuitive interface. Clicking the three dots on each entry lets you enable manual control, but FanControl's real strength lies in custom curves.
Once everything is detected, you're ready to assign curves. Click the green button in the bottom-right corner, choose one of seven available curve types, and assign that curve to a device. For example, you can run case fans at maximum power while leaving your graphics card on automatic.
The developer explains that FanControl is essentially a graphical interface for two hardware libraries: LibreHardwareMonitor and NvAPIWrapper. That means it has no direct influence on compatibility with your hardware. If something isn't detected or doesn't work, there's not much it can do right now. Fortunately, the software worked very well on our test system, but if you notice FanControl isn't working perfectly on your machine, don't worry. All related modules are active, and support may improve in future builds.
