If you are one of the many users running Microsoft's latest operating system, in this tutorial we'll show you the steps to create a Windows 10 USB recovery drive.
When you install Windows manually or automatically (such as an update), there are times when the installation fails (packages, applications, and registry), and later that missing package could cause a critical issue when starting up. To keep this from becoming a headache, we'll show you a solution.
Steps to create the recovery drive
- Connect a USB drive to any USB port on your computer (the drive should be at least 2GB). Then format the drive (this isn't mandatory at this point).
- From the system search icon (located on the taskbar), type the word “Recovery” (or “Recuperación” if your system is in Spanish). Then select “Control Panel”.
- Click on the first option, “Create a recovery drive”.
Select the option to create a backup and click “Next”.
After a moment, select the removable drive, where you'll have the Windows 10 recovery copy, and click “Next”.
- Now click “Create” and the system will format the removable drive. Then sit back, prepare a coffee, tea, mate, a soft drink, or hot chocolate and wait for Windows to create a system recovery point on the USB drive.
Keep in mind that this method is not a guarantee and in some cases may not recover Windows 10. There is also the option to format the system, which will restore Windows 10 startup but you'll lose your data.
As you can see, create a recovery drive for Windows 10 is a simple task that gives you a prevention tool against future failures.
