TurnUp is a powerful web platform that lets you create a playlist of songs and listen to them live from anywhere. There are several options for listening to music online in a group where you can share a playlist, but very few let you play the list live with other users.
Create a playlist to listen remotely with friends
With TurnUp, the playlist is controlled collectively. Each participant can add whatever songs they want to the list (the track database comes from YouTube), and then every user votes for their favorite song. The most voted songs will be played first.
First, you'll need to go to the TurnUp website and create a room (they call it a “party”). You can do it as a guest or as an administrator. You sign up with your Facebook credentials. After giving it a name and protecting the room with a password, you'll get the link to share with your friends. To do that, click the “Share” icon in the top-left corner.
Inside the room you'll find a search bar where you can search for songs (you get results from YouTube). Next to each song you'll find the “+” symbol; clicking that icon adds the song to the playlist. The other participants in the room can also do this.
The room administrator gets the video and audio of the song, while the other users only get the audio.
Voting system
Next to each song you'll find the “Like” button. From there, each participant can vote, and the most highly valued songs go to the playback queue. Songs play in the exact order of voting, with no option to rewind or fast-forward. While a track is playing, you only have the option to click the “Next” button; if 50% of the room's users click the next button, the song is skipped and you move on to the next track on the playlist.
With TurnUp you can create a playlist where all participants can add and listen to songs collaboratively from a remote location. A kind of collective virtual party, ideal for when you're gaming online with your friends and want to share a soundtrack.
