How to Download Stories from Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp

The concept of “Stories” took the social networks of the Facebook group by storm. Originally conceived as a way to counter Snapchat's influence, stories today face a tough rival in TikTok. However, there's a small catch: if you've ever thought about downloading stories from Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp you'll find no official solution, and you'll need to use a Chrome extension called Story Saver

All social networks carry a contradictory component: they claim to be 'social' but don't necessarily listen to their users. Some requests to modify or disable certain features are completely ignored, and the only option is to find an alternative solution. A clear example is stories on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. On one hand, many users want to disable them and can't. On the other, there are those who want to download stories from Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to replay them on another platform, or simply keep a local copy. I'm afraid we can't help with the first (for now), but we have something very useful for the second. It's called Story Saver, and it works wonders in Chrome and other Chromium flavors.

How to Download Stories from Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp

Installing Story Saver is no trouble at all, and it adds to Chrome like any other extension. Just make sure its icon stays visible and isn't tucked away in the overflow menu. Once installed, go to the story you want to save and click the Story Saver icon. If it's a simple image, you'll get a JPG file. Otherwise, the video will be stored in the MP4 container format. Story Saver will also generate a friendlier name, replacing Facebook's encrypted strings.

If for some reason the extension doesn't save the file or you receive a wrong story (this happened once on our side), just close the tab, reload the content, and try again.
