We've previously talked about applications like Waifu2x-ncnn-Vulkan GUI Edition Reloaded and Real-ESRGAN-GUI, but beyond the technical differences, the goal is the same: Enlarge images without sacrificing too much quality. Applying special algorithms is one of the best strategies we can follow, and with that in mind we come to AI Image Upscaler, which puts the entire process online.
Modern algorithms have allowed us to reach a good balance between the desire to enlarge images and the inevitable loss of quality. Graphics cards have technologies like DLSS (Nvidia), FSR (AMD) and XeSS (Intel) that provide excellent results… but if the idea is to process one or two images, there are other tools at our disposal. Two of our favorites are Waifu2x-ncnn-Vulkan GUI Edition Reloaded and Real-ESRGAN-GUI; however, there is also an online solution called AI Image Upscaler.
AI Image Upscaler: How to Enlarge Your Images Using AI
AI Image Upscaler interface only has two options: 200 percent and 400 percent. The rest is about dragging the image to process (maximum size 5 megabytes and 4000x4000), and clicking Start All. In a few seconds, the result will appear at the bottom, next to the Download button that should open the new image in another tab.
Judging by the results, I think AI Image Upscaler is using something similar to LDSR (Latent Diffusion Super Resolution), Gigapixel AI, or a variant of UniversalUpscaler. A trained eye will quickly detect generative errors (artifacts, rubber skin, etc.), but overall it does a very good job.
Personally, I would like to see more advanced options in the interface, maybe to adjust the 'strength' or 'intensity' of the algorithm, but the most important limitation of AI Image Upscaler is that its free edition enables a total of five images per week. Interested users can pay 9 dollars for 24 hours without limits (to process hundreds of images?), or enter a monthly subscription of 19 dollars.
