Media-Extractor is a program that lets you extract all multimedia files from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. But the platform goes a bit further, because apart from extracting the multimedia files from any Office document, it also extracts the XML files that store information about fonts and the general layout of the document. The service lists the files found and also allows you to preview them before extraction (this is useful when you don't have MS Office installed on your device).
Extract multimedia files from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
When you download the binary version of Media-Extractor in its interface you can load the Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document from the 'Open File' button. The environment automatically lists on the left all the multimedia and XML files (ordered by page), and you get a preview of them.
If the file preview does not appear, you have to select 'Options' and click on “Show Other Embedded Files”. At this point you can save all files from the 'Save all Files' button. But if you want to save files individually, you can do so from the 'Save File' button.
In our tests everything worked perfectly; loading the Office file and exporting the multimedia and XML files is very fast and without errors. The only drawback we found is that when loading a new Office document, the platform does not update the document and we had to close and reopen the program.
