In this article we'll teach you how to find similar photos on your computer, even if the images have been rotated. The program we'll use is AllDup, which locates similar photos by comparing several parameters such as name, size, content, hash, and file properties.
Although the platform's main feature is duplicate file search, we'll use an option to search for similar images. This way we won't just find duplicate photos.
Finding Similar Photos on Your PC
Once you have downloaded the program from its official page, you'll see its simple interface. Now you'll have to select the source folder on the left side of the interface, and check the box to verify subfolders.
In the Search Criteria option, select Similar Photos, set the Match Percentage (ideally 99%) and select the comparison method (aHash). At this point you can configure the platform to your needs, but in our tests this customization found the most matches. Now you only have to click Start Search, which is in the upper left corner of the interface.
After a fairly quick scan of the selected folders, the platform will show you all the matches. The interface is very simple: on the left you'll find the name and location of the photo, and clicking on each one shows a thumbnail on the right.
The environment has several methods for displaying results, from groups of matches, duplicate files, or thumbnails, among other options.
AllDup is really a very good solution for finding similar photographs, because other programs only offer to search for duplicate images, but not similar ones. This is because the tool has different search methods. Once you locate the similar images, you can select the photo you were looking for and delete the others. This way you'll gain space on your hard drive.
