Google Earth is one of the best services Google offers humanity. With the tool we can travel the planet without moving from our computer or device. Now, Google Earth offers a new feature that allows us to measure the distance between two different places on Earth, as well as measure the square kilometers of a given area.
If you don't know how to use this new built-in feature, we'll explain it in a simple way, so you can use it in Google Chrome and on Android devices (coming soon to iOS). We'll focus on its function in the Google Chrome web browser.
How to measure distances in Google Earth?
The first thing you have to do is open Google Earth in your browser. Once the service has loaded, in the left side menu you will see a tool named "Measure distance" and you will see how a new dialog box is enabled in the top right corner. At this point you will have to change the view to "2D" because the service works much better.
Now, you will have to select a starting location and an ending location in Google Earth. That's how simple it is to get the result between the two points in kilometers and miles.
From the dialog box you can click "Start over" and make another measurement. In this case, we are going to measure a specific area in Google Earth. After determining the area by connecting points (which you do with the left mouse button), the platform will give you the measurement in kilometers, miles, square kilometers, and square miles.
This new feature is really useful for determining the perimeter of a city, a field, or for knowing the kilometers you will travel on your next trip.
