Temperature is a lethal enemy for any hardware component, but especially for graphics cards. Although we have very valuable resources at our disposal such as undervolting, we must monitor all available sensors very closely, and never lose sight of them. If you want to know how to monitor your video card temperature, you can take the first step and download a copy of the GPU Shark application, which was recently updated.
The market has seen substantial improvements in the availability of graphics cards, but not in their cost. The so-called "mid-range" models carry prices that border on prohibitive in different regions, and many users have been forced to extend their hardware cycles. That means frequent maintenance, and stricter monitoring of their temperatures.
Tools like MSI Afterburner and HWiNFO can help us monitor the temperature of a video card without problems, however, if you prefer an even more compact and portable option, it's hard to go wrong with GPU Shark. This is not the first time we've mentioned this app, but it has just been updated to version 0.29, which gives us an excellent reason to download it.
Monitor All Your GPU Temperatures with GPU Shark
The initial run of GPU Shark takes place in "simplified" mode, but it still delivers a lot of technical information, starting with the exact model of the installed card, its main features, core and memory clocks, and of course, temperature (Celsius and Fahrenheit), voltages, and TDP.
When we switch to advanced mode, the interface expands to include extra details about the installed driver, OpenGL version, power limits (remember that some cards can go beyond their initial TDP), minimum and maximum temperature recorded during the session, and most importantly, active processes with 3D acceleration functions (browsers, virtual environments, benchmarks, graphics editors, etc.).
GPU Shark also allows us to quickly send all data to the clipboard, but we cannot minimize it to the system tray, something we can do with GPU-Z and HWiNFO. This is not necessarily a problem, and if you have additional screens on your computer, you'll see it works better than expected. Give it a try!
