OnionShare is a peer-to-peer file sharing service based on Tor that has recently added a new feature called “Publish Website”. This new feature allows you to host a web page anonymously on your computer. The web will be an Onion site, meaning it will only be visible from the Tor network.

The web pages you can host on the platform will be static sites. You can load images, HTML, CSS, JS, etc. No admin service (backend) and no PHP. In this way, there is no risk of revealing the server's location (in this case, your computer).

Two important points:

  • The first is that the service will show you a list (like history) of all requests for access to the web page.
  • The second, logically, is that when you turn off your computer, the server will be disconnected and the web will go offline. And, when you start the computer again, the URL will change. You can solve this from the utility's settings. Click on “Use a persistent address” and, even if you turn off your computer or load the files again, the address will always be the same.
