How to Remove the 'End of Support' Warning in Windows 7

Less than a month of official support remains in Windows 7 , and as expected, Redmond has begun a sort of psychological warfare to warn users that the final date is approaching rapidly. The latest rollup of security updates includes a new executable that presents a full-screen pop-up with each restart, and once a day. Today we'll go over three methods to make that pop-up stop bothering you.

With an average market share ranging between 25 and 30 percent (depending on who's measuring), it's clear that the ultimate abandonment of Windows 7 will take a long time. Microsoft tried to avoid another 'XP crisis,' but with the natural resistance to Windows 8.x and the difficulties in transitioning to Windows 10 (essentially an operating system turned into a service), it's logical that millions of users are out there defending the Windows 7 stronghold.

But Redmond hasn't been sitting idle. The latest security rollup includes an executable, EOSnotify.exe, located in the classic System32 folder of the operating system. Its main role is to show this image:

First option

There are two curiosities in that warning. The first is that it completely ignores the existence of Windows 8.1 (with extended support until January 10, 2023) and recommends moving directly to Windows 10. The second is that it includes an option to prevent it from appearing again, which suggests that Microsoft 'seems' to have learned a lesson about unwanted pop-ups. However, over time we've learned not to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Second option

The second option is to open the Task Manager, follow the path Microsoft - Windows - Setup, and delete the EOSNotify and EOSNotify2 entries. One of the tasks runs EOSnotify.exe at system startup (technically, at each login), and the second at 12 PM.

Third option

The third shortcut is to edit the Registry. Go to 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software - Microsoft - Windows - CurrentVersion - EOSNotify', and there you will find a DWORD value called DiscontinueEOS. If it's not there, you can create it yourself, but make sure to change its value from 0 to 1.

Either way, EOSNotify should disappear. What will happen with Windows 7 support after January? Logically, we can't expect anything from Microsoft, but we have options like 0Patch and BypassESU to access additional hotfixes.
