HDD Regenerator is an application that repairs bad sectors on a hard drive, allowing you to recover information you value and even rescue a drive that is failing. That's why we at NeoTeo have written this tutorial on recovering defective drives.

HDD Regenerator is an application that repairs bad sectors of a hard drive

With this type of tool we always clarify that it does not perform miracles and in some cases it will not recover the content of damaged sectors on a unit.

Creating a bootable disk

Once you download the application from its official page, you will see its modular interface with three functions. The platform offers you the option to make a bootable disk from the "Bootable USB Flash" option or create a bootable CD or DVD; for this option you have to click on "Bootable CD / DVD".

The platform gives us the option to make a bootable disk

Remember that all the data you have on the Flash drive will be erased when you turn it into a bootable drive.

Once you have your bootable disk, you'll need to configure your computer to boot from the Flash drive (if you use an optical disc you won't need to set this option); this is done by entering your PC's BIOS (usually by pressing one of the "F" keys at startup) and selecting the Flash drive as the first option.

Running the repair

Now your computer will boot with HDD Regenerator (not Windows) and it will show you the disks on your PC (listed by capacity; at this point you choose the unit you need to repair by pressing the number that identifies it, in our case "1").

The environment will show you four types of repair: "Scan and repair", "San, but do not repair (show bad sectors)", "Regenerate all sectors in a range (eve if not bad)", and "Show Statistics". You select these options also by number; in our case we chose "1" and then pressed the "Enter" key.

Scan and repair

We are almost done with the process. Now the application will ask you from which point of the disk you want to start the repair. From point "0" it will perform a complete repair; if you enter another value (in MB) it will start from where you indicate (in any case it will always finish at the end).

You will see how the scan begins; it is done in blocks. When the utility finds a defective block, the letter "B" appears in red, when the sector is repaired, the letter "R" appears in light blue, and sectors that are in perfect condition remain blank.

As you can see, the tool is very simple to use, and if it fulfills its function of recovering data you had already given up for lost, it will surely be one of the best tools you have ever tried. But if the platform fails to recover the drive, you will dedicate some insult to it, which we will not repeat here.

Also, at the top of the interface you will find the option "Click here to repair physical bad sectors on damaged drive surface directly under Windows", from which you can repair bad blocks directly from Windows (without a bootable drive).

We have performed two tests with the tool; in one case it rescued a disk, and in the other case it failed to recover some video files that were damaged.
