Nintendo’s battery-replacement procedure applies to Nintendo Switch 2 model BEE-001(-01) and replacement battery BEE-003(-01). It requires removing the rear housing and nine screws, so this is not an external battery swap. Nintendo classifies model BEE-001 as not user-replaceable. Nintendo’s procedure
Which Switch 2 model is covered?
Nintendo specifies BEE-001(-01) for its user-replacement instructions and identifies BEE-003(-01) as the compatible replacement battery. The procedure does not apply to BEE-001. Check the console’s model designation before starting rather than relying on a general Switch 2 teardown.
Prepare the console and workspace
Nintendo specifies a PH00 Phillips screwdriver and a compatible BEE-003(-01) battery. An adult should perform the replacement. Work in a dry area on a nonmetal surface, and discharge static before handling the console.
Follow Nintendo’s battery-replacement steps
- Power off the console completely.
- Disconnect cables and remove the cards and both Joy-Con 2 controllers. This clears the console before you open it.
- Remove the nine black, 3.0 mm screws with a PH00 screwdriver. Five secure the rear housing and four sit at the magnetic connectors. Two of the five rear screws are behind the stand. The rear screws use thread-locking adhesive, so press the driver firmly and keep it perpendicular to avoid damaging the screw heads.
- Open the game-card cover.
- Lift off the rear housing.
- Remove the old battery. Raise it by its upper-right protrusion and slide it out without touching the other electronic components.
- Record the replacement battery’s lot number.
- Fit the replacement battery. Slide it in with its terminals facing the screen, then press it gently into place. If it will not fit, stop rather than forcing it.
- Check the components before closing the console. Nintendo’s procedure calls for checking the power and volume button board, microphone, four magnets, and rubber part in the rear housing.
- Refit the rear housing and screws. Seat the top starting at the game-card side, press the bottom into place, then reinstall the nine screws.
- Check the assembled console. Confirm that nothing rattles, the buttons work, and the console powers on.
Stop if the battery heats up or will not fit
Do not use a damaged battery. If the replacement heats up or will not install without force, stop the procedure. Keep the work area dry and avoid touching other electronic components while removing the old battery.
