Organizing windows on your desktop can be a simple matter of drag and drop, or a real nightmare if the available space is very limited. Windows 10 tries to compensate with virtual desktops and automatic window resizing, but if those solutions don't appeal to you and you prefer a manual strategy, then you should download a copy of WindowGrid. With a couple of clicks and the help of the arrow keys, you can resize a window and set its exact position easily.
If you want to disable automatic window snapping in Windows 10, all you have to do is visit the Multitasking subsection of the System category in the Settings menu. In that same place you will also find parameters for the virtual desktop (a feature that Redmond took a long time to implement), and a combination of both will allow you to exercise some control... but sometimes that is not enough.

If on the other hand you want something at the level of a virtual grid in the background that allows you to resize a window and reconfigure its position with the precision that only the keyboard can deliver, it's not a bad idea to give the WindowGrid application a try.
How to Resize a Window with WindowGrid
This software can be installed permanently on your system, or run in portable mode (we recommend this option for your tests). Its operation depends on four steps:
- Click on the window to change with the left button, and do not release it.
- While still holding the left button, click with the right button to reveal the grid.
- With both buttons pressed, place the window in position.
- Release the right button, and move the cursor to resize the window.
That's it! The last point can be replaced with the arrow keys, which will give you superior control if the grid is tighter. The factory configuration (at least on my system) was 12 by 6, but I have tested values of 48 x 24 without problems.
The only negative aspect to highlight of WindowGrid is that it has not been updated in more than three years, and if we consider the nature of Windows 10, that could cause problems in the future. However, our evaluation was carried out successfully on Windows 10 1903. Another warning from the developer is that the WindowGrid32.dll file might need an exception in some antivirus (Windows Defender didn't complain). Download a copy and give it a try.
