It's normal to have large files on your computer, such as movies, images, or system files, that at some point you want to back up or share and it's impossible to do so. For this reason, we present Alternate Splitter, a program that offers you a very simple method to split and merge files or documents and automatically place them in a destination folder.
Although from its options you can add files in batch (of different sizes and extensions), the environment processes them one by one so that the division doesn't produce errors. This procedure is something you can also do with programs like Winrar, but Alternate Splitter has its own methods.
How to Use Alternate Splitter
From the Alternate Splitter interface you will need to add all the files you want to split. At the bottom left, you should select (from the drop-down menu) the size of the fragments (with options expressed in KiloBytes). Next to it you have the option "Ask for next file" — this option automatically starts a new process when the one that was being done finishes (it goes in order of the list).
Split Files
From the platform settings you can split files and assign each division a generic extension (*.file) to later convert it to the format you need.
Combine Files
To combine the split files you will need to click on the "Merge" section. The utility will then start processing all loaded files. When the process finishes you can find the combination in the destination folder.
Merge Files
The utility also offers the possibility to merge files. To do this, you must ensure that they are of the same type and that they can be combined. In our tests, a text, video, or audio file could be merged easily and effectively.
Alternate Splitter is a free program that you can use on Windows operating systems and requires .NET Framework 2.0 (already included in Windows Vista or later).
