To get a condensed summary of a WhatsApp voice message, Macitynet reported on October 19, 2026, that you can select the note, choose Share, send it to Gemini, and submit a summary prompt. WhatsApp’s own voice-message transcript instead turns speech into text on your device.
Ask Gemini to summarize a voice message
Macitynet’s reported workflow is aimed at readers who want the main points rather than a full transcript. It uses Gemini as a separate app, not a WhatsApp-native summary feature.
- Select the WhatsApp voice message you want summarized.
- Choose Share, then Gemini. Macitynet’s walkthrough uses this route to pass the audio to Gemini.
- Ask Gemini to summarize the message and submit the prompt. The response is a prompted summary, rather than a word-for-word transcript.
Google also supports adding audio files from a device in the Gemini mobile app. Its audio upload instructions set a standard total limit of 10 minutes of audio, or up to 3 hours with Google AI Pro or Ultra. A prompt can include up to 10 supported files, and each supported non-video file can be up to 100 MB.
Choose a summary or a transcript
| Method | What you get | Audio handling |
| Share the voice message with Gemini | A condensed response shaped by your prompt | The audio is shared with Gemini for processing. |
| Use WhatsApp’s voice-message transcript | A text version of the voice message | The transcript is generated on your device. |
If you want the main ideas from a long message, ask Gemini for a summary. If you want to read the message as text, WhatsApp’s transcript is the closer fit. To turn it on, open Settings > Chats > Voice message transcripts. Then long-press a voice message and tap Transcribe. WhatsApp says transcripts are generated on-device and may contain errors; availability can vary by device and language. Its transcript instructions explain the controls.
Check Gemini’s activity setting before sharing
A voice note sent to Gemini leaves WhatsApp’s on-device transcript workflow and becomes a file shared with Gemini. Google says that when Keep Activity is on, chats and shared files are saved in Gemini Apps Activity and may be used to improve Google services, including generative AI models. Some data may be reviewed by human reviewers.
With Keep Activity off, Google says future chats are not used to train its AI models unless you submit feedback. Chats are still retained for up to 72 hours to provide the service and help protect users. Google’s Gemini privacy information describes these settings and their data handling.
