Yes, Notepad is just a couple of clicks away and without a doubt one of the most useful resources that Windows offers, but keeping a copy open in the background isn't comfortable for every user. One of the most interesting alternatives is Chrome Notes, an extension compatible with Chrome that helps us take quick notes in any session and save copies locally.
When it comes to writing something quickly or copying a piece of text, most of us probably use Notepad as a 'container', so to speak. If you have more than one screen at your disposal, Notepad is an extraordinary ally for work, and its low resource consumption lets you open multiple copies without issues.
However, some users simply don't like Notepad, and prefer to explore other options. That automatically leads us to Chrome and its different flavors, where we spend several hours a day. So, why not place a kind of Notepad inside the browser? Fortunately, the Chrome Notes extension takes care of that job.
Chrome Notes: Extension for Taking Quick Notes in Chrome
To begin, click the pencil icon. Another click on Title lets you modify the note's title, something very important for storing them later. The icons at the bottom represent Chrome Notes' basic functions: Cut, Copy, Paste, Select All, Delete Selection, Download Notes, Undo, Redo, Read Aloud, Spell Check, and Send Notes via Email.
The + sign at the top right creates additional notes, and if you want to change the size of the writing space, click and drag on the two lines at the bottom right corner. Notes are saved in the main menu (the three lines or 'hamburger'), and there you'll see an icon to delete all content at once. Chrome Notes supports the main keyboard shortcuts, and dark mode.
In short, I think the Chrome Notes extension deserves a chance. It works very well both in official Chrome and in Microsoft Edge, and I imagine there will be no problems with its Chromium variants. Another positive aspect is that its creator recently updated it, so it's a good time to give it a try.
