To remove the Write with Siri prompt, iPhone and iPad users can block Writing Assistance through Screen Time. Mac users have a different option: a third-party-reported Terminal workaround for macOS 27 that changes a private setting and requires a restart.

Turn off Writing Assistance on iPhone and iPad

Fast Company describes this route for iPhone and iPad. First enable Content & Privacy Restrictions; then set Writing Assistance to “Don’t Allow.”

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Screen Time.
  3. Tap Content & Privacy.
  4. Turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  5. Open Siri, then Writing Assistance.
  6. Select Don’t Allow.

Fast Company says the next time the keyboard appears, its regular predictive-text suggestions should take the place of the Write with Siri button. That is different from turning predictive text off. One Reddit commenter reported that blocking Writing Tools reduced AI suggestions on their device but did not remove them completely (Reddit discussion).

Mac: use the reported Terminal workaround with care

OS X Daily published a macOS 27 workaround on October 5, 2026. It changes the private LightweightUI_macOS feature flag in Terminal, then requires a restart. OS X Daily says the change also affects related floating Siri AI actions and contextual actions, not just the Write with Siri prompt. Apple’s Mac Siri settings guide lists Siri controls but not this feature-flag command.

  1. Open Terminal.
  2. Create the preferences directory:sudo mkdir -p /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain
  3. Set the feature flag to disabled:sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/WritingTools LightweightUI_macOS -dict Enabled -bool false
  4. Restart your Mac.

Restore the Mac default

To remove the override, OS X Daily says to run this command in Terminal, then restart your Mac:

sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/WritingTools LightweightUI_macOS
