WhatsApp is not only one of the most important instant messengers on the market, but it has also become an essential tool for work and study for many people. The problem is that, on more than one occasion, mobile devices leave us stranded halfway, and one way or another we urgently need WhatsApp to rise from the ashes to send or receive messages. That’s when the famous Android emulator called BlueStacks comes into play, which, although it prioritizes running games, works wonderfully with several apps.

Any smartphone can retire in a catastrophic event, dropping the number of Android devices in your household to zero. If we add the classic time and budget constraints, there’s no choice but to improvise. A basic phone has no problem serving as a backup for calls and SMS until further notice, but WhatsApp needs a more or less modern Android environment. The options that come to mind are two: Virtualize Android x86, or install BlueStacks. Today we’ll explore the second one.

In essence, if you find yourself in a similar situation and need WhatsApp to return from the dark side no matter what, BlueStacks should get you out of trouble. It’s not the most effective or comfortable solution, but within minutes, the messenger will be running without a hitch. The general requirements are three: a computer compatible with BlueStacks, the emulator installer, and a mobile phone where you can install your SIM card and receive an SMS with the WhatsApp verification code.

A basic BlueStacks 4 installation

1) Once BlueStacks is installed, the first step is to go to its settings section and change the graphics mode to “Compatibility” and “OpenGL”. If you don’t do it now, BlueStacks will ask for it when you try to run WhatsApp for the first time. The emulator will ask to restart.

The combination is “Compatibility” and “OpenGL”

2) Go to the “My Games” section, and enter the Google Play Store. Here you’ll need to log in with your Google account as if it were a normal phone. BlueStacks expects you to use the store to download some games, but our goal is different.

3 - Optional) Download the official “Contacts” app from Google. With your email account already configured in the store, this app will help you view and/or edit any contact associated with it. The funny thing is that “Contacts” will ask for permission to access your contacts (?).

It’s not mandatory, but it will make contact management easier

4) Install WhatsApp. Nothing strange here: BlueStacks will receive and install the Android APK in seconds.

5) Configure WhatsApp. A known ritual: Country and phone number first, followed by the verification code that your temporary phone should receive. Enter the code, and confirm the messenger works correctly by sending a text. That’s it!

Working perfectly

Personally, I hope you never need to use this small tutorial, because no one wants to see their smartphone destroyed (or worse, be a victim of theft). But if you need to send and receive WhatsApp messages on your PC as soon as possible, BlueStacks has everything to help you. Good luck!
