The concept of a “favorget” — saving something as a favorite and completely forgetting about the link — is tempting at first… until all our browsers explode with bookmarks gathering digital dust. However, there is a very simple way to view them all and get ready for a cleanup: it’s WebBrowserBookmarksView, another tool developed by the tireless Nirsoft, which automatically detects all bookmarks from Chrome and Firefox and places them in a single interface.
I have about 60 or 70 bookmarks saved in my installation of Ungoogled Chromium, and I can swear that I have forgotten 95 percent of them. What’s more, I don’t even know if they still work properly after all this time. As if that weren’t enough, the built-in management systems are horrible. Firefox’s menu is a step above the rest, but it’s still far from perfect.
The problem is clear: two or more browsers installed, each with its own bookmarks, duplicate entries, broken links… the list goes on. At this point, you might want to check the integrity of those bookmarks, or why not, create a backup of all of them at the same time. That’s where WebBrowserBookmarksView steps in, another creation of Nirsoft.
How to view and organize bookmarks with WebBrowserBookmarksView
The program is compatible with Firefox and the main flavors of Chromium. All entries are identified under multiple columns, starting with the title, URL, browser, and folder name they’re in, their exact position, creation date, and physical location on disk.
As expected, WebBrowserBookmarksView lets us select the entire bookmark table and save it in seven different formats, including XML and JSON.
Another very interesting aspect of WebBrowserBookmarksView is that it enables real-time QR code generation from our bookmarks, whether to share them or simplify opening them on mobile devices. However, the interface does not allow us to modify or delete. We can make backups, access all properties, and open the content in a tab, but when it comes to purging old or broken bookmarks, that has to be done in the browsers. Download a copy!
