One of the most common tasks in front of the computer is watching videos. That's why we're going to show you a method that darkens the video background, so you can enjoy the moment more. For this we will use Turn Off, a Google Chrome browser extension that will dim or change the background. The tool allows you to manipulate the level of darkness of the background, change the background color, or create an effect around the video, among many other features.
Once you have downloaded and installed the extension, go to your favorite video pages (in our tests it worked on YouTube and Vimeo) and click "Play". When the video has started running, you just have to click on the Turn Off icon in the browser toolbar and you will see how the video background dims.
How to customize the experience with Turn Off?
To configure the video display mode, you will have to click on the extension icon with the auxiliary mouse button and select "Settings". At this point you will see that another browser tab opens and, on the left side, you will see the different modes that we will explain below:
Basic Concepts
From basic concepts, you can customize the color, background, and opacity of the background. You can select the autoplay option for YouTube. This option will dim the background during playback and lighten the background when playback ends. You can also select a type of background and add several URLs for the white list or black list.
Visual Effects
In Visual Effects, you can customize the dimming area around the video. You can manipulate the background color, the blur radius, the pixel radius, and you can also create and customize lighting and effects. This option only works for HTML5 players.
Advanced Options
Advanced options allow you to configure the volume of videos with the mouse wheel, add filters, and take screenshots, among many other options.
Night Mode
Night mode is an option that allows you to add day light mode or night light mode to video pages. You can also add a white list and black list for the appearance of the mode.
